Dr. Fox is a renowned computer scientist with a distinguished career. He earned his BSc in Computer Science from the University of Toronto in 1975 and completed his PhD in Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University in 1983. He co-founded the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon and later established the Intelligent Systems Laboratory. In 1984, he co-founded Carnegie Group Inc., specializing in AI-based engineering solutions. He returned to the University of Toronto in 1991 as the NSERC Research Chairholder in Enterprise Integration and co-founded Novator Systems Ltd. in 1993. Dr. Fox’s pioneering work includes contributions to multi-agent systems, Coordination Theory, and Constraint-Directed Scheduling in AI. He designed the acclaimed diagnostic system PDS/GENAID and developed widely-used knowledge engineering tools. Throughout his career, Dr. Fox has been recognized with numerous accolades, including fellowship in AAAI, the Engineering Institute of Canada, and the CP Rail Medal. He’s also a prolific author with over 200 publications. Currently, his research focuses on ontologies and common-sense reasoning, applied to Smart Cities, with his city information ontologies adopted worldwide.
